The Roaring Fork Gay & Lesbian Community Fund is proud to announce our new website (www.rfglcf.com). The RFGLCF, formerly the Aspen Gay & Lesbian Community Fund, has been serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community of the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond since 1996 as a non-profit organization.  The RFGLCF produces many events throughout the year, including Aspen Gay Ski Week each January, which brings thousands of GLBT skiers to the mountains of central Colorado.

Our mission is to promote tolerance, understanding and diversity through education, community action and service.

We have recently embarked on a new endeavor to work with kids in area schools.  We are partnering with the valley-wide TEACH program in the Roaring Fork School District to help fund training for kids and adults who are learning the principles of diffusing situations of racism, genderism, sexism, ageism, bullying and homophobia.  RFGLCF Program Director Bryan Gonzales, is currently one of the certified TEACH trainers who is going out to area schools to bring these principles to students in the schools from Aspen to Glenwood Springs.

The RFGLCF is proud to have produced an event in December 2009 concerning homophobia and its manifestations in the western U.S.  During this event, we screened a recently produced documentary entitled “Amancio: Two Faces On A Tombstone, “ about one man’s quest for justice in the death of a gay man in the Colorado River basin, that was followed by a Q&A with Denise Palazzo, a leading conflict resolution educator with a strong interest in opening up dialogue between and among youth and adults with diverse interests and backgrounds. Thank you to everyone who attended this weekend of events focusing on hate crime and homophobia. We feel privileged to have been able to bring to Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley this first in a series of community education events. Look for a similar event in Spring 2010.

Please logon to our calendar to see a complete listing of GLBT social events and happenings in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley.  On our website you will also find recent photos and local resources, as well as ways to volunteer and donate to the cause.

Additionally, the RFGLCF is now holding bi-weekly support group meetings in Aspen, Colorado.  Currently, they are involved with an HIV support group, which meets twice per month, but are willing to have any other community-oriented related meetings on their premises, especially for those groups who are marginalized by society.
